  • In the 89th Texas Legislative Session, state lawmakers passed House Bill 1481, signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, prohibiting students from using personal digital communication devices during the entire school day, including instructional and non-instructional time, while on school property.

Personal digital communications devices that are prohibited for student use during the school day, as defined by the law, include:

    • Cellphones
    • Tablets
    • Smartwatches
    • Earbuds and headphones
    • Paging devices
    • Any other electronic device used to communicate with others

What does this mean for Eustace ISD?

When your child returns to school use of these devices will be prohibited during class time, transitions, and lunch. This means students will be required to keep these devices securely stored in their backpacks during the school day.

In the coming days, EISD will share additional information to help families understand the specific procedures, expectations, and consequences associated with this new law. Your partnership is essential in helping us uphold this important expectation and ensure compliance across all campuses. With your support, we’re confident this change will have a lasting, positive impact on student learning and the overall school environment.
