The Eustace
Middle School Student Council recently completed a canned food
drive that exceeded all expectations. Food items were
collected through the month of November. Middle school students’
generosity and participation brought in 1,667 non-perishable food
items for the community. Fueling the generosity was not only
the students’ desire to help those in need, but also the incentive
that the grade level that brought the most food items would be
rewarded with a lock-in at the school.
The seventh
grade started strong and was ahead for most of the month; but at the
end of the competition the eighth grade out-gave the other students
and won in the final count. The race was so close that only 75
cans separated eighth and seventh grade. So the eighth grade
tested their teachers’ meddle through the all night lock-in.
And for their second place finish, the seventh grade was rewarded
with a “half-day and hot dogs” party.
Many of the cans
will be delivered directly to Eustace ISD students and their
families, while remaining food will be donated to the First Baptist
Church of Eustace in an effort to benefit the greater community.
Thank you to everyone who donated food and please keep us in mind
for next year’s canned food drive.
