The National
Association of Secondary School Principals Prudential Spirit of
Community awards is now open for application. To qualify for
this award, students in grades 9-12 must have distinguished
themselves through volunteer work over the past year. Awards are a
$1,000 scholarship and an all expense paid trip with a parent to
Washington D.C. in May, 2008. To apply, go to

The TCU Texas
Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Program is a scholarship program
that recognizes young high school age entrepreneurs for their
success in business. The award is open to any Texas high school
student who has started and managed a business. The top winner will
receive a $5,000 scholarship and five other winners will receive
$1,000 scholarships. If the student attends TCU, the scholarships
will double. A Student may apply every year while in high school. To

The Texas Aggregates Concrete and Association (TACA)
is sponsoring the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA)
High School Essay Contest. The contest is open to high school
students who were age 16-18 at the beginning of the 2007-2008
school term.
The
winner from Texas will have their entry forwarded to the NRMCA for
consideration at the national level. The winner will be selected
from the winning state entries generated from high schools across
the country. He or she will be flown, expenses paid, along with a
parent or guardian to NRMCA"s 2008 convention in Las Vegas, Nevada
in March.
The national winner will receive a scholarship of $5,000 if they
enroll their freshman year in a concrete-related curriculum in
specific universities in Tennessee, New Jersey, California or
Arizona, or $2,000 if a concrete-related curriculum is not chosen.
The
Texas winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship to attend college
with a concrete-related curriculum , or a $1,000 scholarship for a
non-concrete related curriculum.

The Kiwanis
Club of Athens announces that it is time to award the
Texas-Oklahoma District Walter Hurst Sophomore of the Year
contest. This year, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the
local club's winner. The local winner will then be submitted to
the District to compete for an additional $600 scholarship (20
scholarships will be awarded in 2008). Applications are
available in the counselor's office. |

The Daughters of the American Revolution (Athens Chapter)
is sponsoring a scholarship for students in the 9-12 grades.
Students must write an essay of no more than 750 words on the
topic,"How did the four voyages of Columbus change our perception of
geography and alter world economics?"One essay will be chosen from
the local chapter and forwarded on to the state competition, then
division competition and finally the national competition. The
National winner will receive $1,200 in addition to paid lodging and
transportation to Washington D.C. for Columbus Day (October 8,
2008). The second place national winner will receive $500 and the
third place national winner will receive $300. Complete
instructions are in the counselor's office.

Foundation, in association with U.S. News & World Report, is
offering the following scholarships:

national scholarships to 52 students (one in each state,
Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico)

$15,000
additional scholarships to 10 national recipients. The national
scholarship winners will also be offered internships at AXA
offices and a laptop computer for college- bringing their grand
total educational support value to more than $25,000.
